Republic of Abkhazia, Sukhum, school №4 named after Gulia
TOR
Russia, Moscow
Alexander Pomazkov, known by the pseudonym TOR, began his journey into graffiti in 1997 and has since become a participant and winner of many graffiti and airbrush festivals. He has interesting projects to his credit, such as painting the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station, painting record-breaking airplanes at VDNKh and airbrushing for the BMW Bavarian Gallery. He has also participated in projects such as the Museum of Optical Illusions and NATO, The Story of Deception, as well as the Urbanmorphogenesis and New Forms festivals.
On the facade of school No. 4 in Sukhum, Alexander created a monumental portrait of Dmitry Gulia, the founder of Abkhazian literature. The penetrating gaze of the writer is located in the center of the composition, and the hand with the pen symbolizes the creation of the history of the Abkhazian language. The background is complemented by mountains and the Abkhaz alphabet, developed by Gulia, which embody knowledge and heritage preservation. This mural is a message about the value of culture, language, and ancestral memory.
"Dmitry Gulia is a very important person for this country, city and students. This is the man who created the local script and alphabet. The sketch was developed jointly with the teachers of the school and the city administration — it was a real collaboration, everyone made their own contribution. I think it turned out well," the artist shares his thoughts.
